Kidvett/Tom:
Have noticed from limited experience that vertical C/N appears on the breech block of "1920" models. Horizontal C/N appears on center toggle link of "1923" models. Just an observation. Regards Ken D |

I agree with Ken's comments above, but we all now know from "Weimar Lugers" that the so called "1923" commericals were made before the "1920" commericals. I suspect that your pistol has a 5 digit all numeric serial number. TH

Lugerdoc is correct, I quoted the older terminology used prior to "Weimar" Lugers.

According to Coatanzo this is a 1950 East German proof mark house for the city of Suh. It is used to designate firearms using nitro power in accordance with the 1950 proofmark law. Locations noted: left and right side of barrel, left frame rail, left and right breech block, right side middle toggle link, barrel top and breech block top. See Costanzo, World of Lugers Proof Marks, 1977, page 164, mark#26.

Wirnsberger also indicates the C/N in that format as a Suhl nitro proof after 1950.
