DWM Luger

My brother-in-law has a Luger that he is interested in selling, but he doen't know what it's worth. The info I have collected by examination is as follows:
Luger Identification Form
1. "DWM" toggle inscription
2. #28 proof mark (Parabellum web site), GERMANY, and DMANY inscriptions on side of chamber.
3. Squared and knurled toggle knob type
4. no grip safety present
5. stock lug is present
6. 7.65 mm caliber
7. walnut, checkered grip type w/o border
8. thumb safety safe in rear position with "Gesichert" inscribed at an angle
9. s/n "115" "O" series on barrel and in front of trigger
10. 3-3/4" from forward end of extractor to muzzle
11. #4 proof mark (#28 rotated 90 degrees CCW) on left edge of extractor (Parabellum web site)
12. basic front and rear sights
13. magazine bottom plug made of wood w/o markings

1. DWM commercial Luger, 1924-1930?
2. bluing still at 90%+
3. straw colored finish on trigger and disassembly latch at 20%
4. bore in good condition
5. grips in good condition
6. all matching serial numbers on parts (115 "O series" or 15)
7. no s/n on magazine
8. no accessories

Please establish model and year along with value, and notify me if further information is required.

I don't have the value information your looking for but am interested to learn if this gun has any markings on the front grip strap (frame between the wooden grips) and/or a sear safety or evidence that one was installed.

There aren't any markings on the front grip strap. The only safety that I see is the standard thumb safety with the inscription "Gesichert", which I believe means "secure" or "safe" in German. What is a sear safety?

Can you identify this pistol model and/or year?

I am far from an expert but this seems to be a DWM commercial model P08, produced about 1926. It does not sound like it was converted to police use since it is still .30 cal and doesn't have a grip strap mark or sear safety. The GERMANY mark indicates it was potentially for export.

The sear safety is that strip of metal bradded onto the left side of the receiver above the sear bar and regular safety bar.

I won't even hazard a guess as to value. I'm sure there are others who will chime in. If you can post some digital pictures of the gun, it will certainly help them.

I'm headed out of town for several days but, if you look at the top topic under Site Help and Feedback, you'll find a tutorial for uploading photos to this forum. It's not that hard...even I eventually figured it out...and you don't need a website.

Paul, they turned out fine. I did try messing with them, so they'd show up on the page, and it wasn't working. I think that was because John D was changing thingermabobs on the network.

I deleted the other posting, as these pictures were good. To make them "appear" smaller, you put thumb instead of img

BUT, if you want to go back in an edit the posting, the thumb one would get all messed up.

Ed,Ed,Ed... Thingermabobs!? Pretty technical talk for someone who makes their living messing with computer whatzits, dohickies, and such. Does your boss read this forum?

Hi Paul, The value is around $500-$700+, depending on what the market will bear. 1920 Commercials don't sell all that well. Just too many of them. Looks like a nice one, however. Also .30 Luger ammo is kind of spendy.
