Dear Rick W. These do look like Krieghoff grips like thos that I used to own. But aside, look at those proof marks on the frame and receiver of that Mauser luger! the lazy "U" looks like Oberndorf commercial proofs but what are those sunburst things? What are the chamber and toggle markings? Can anyone comment on those proofs?

Heh, Rick, you -know- that scans of proof marks are always of interest!
For that matter, I'd like to see closeups of the marks on the left side... --Dwight |

Rick, I agree that the markings that you describe are typical of some E.German reworks. Your brown checkered grips do appear to be original KH, as the available repros of these, don't have the same shiney boarders. Tom H.

I am certainly not the Kreighoff expert,...John D. will have to give his opinion here... but IMHO these look like genuine Krieghoff Grips...

Based on what I can see in the pictures - these sure look correct..! If so, you have a fine set of Krieg grips! I do notice that the picture when they are mounted to the Luger - the left top grip edge looks slightly "mis-aligned"? Is that the picture - or just the way they sit on the pistol? Anyway - the interior looks correct, as do the what I can see on the exterior.. If you could post a picture of the left panel unmounted - with the top edge in focus - it would really help... Hope this helps!!! |

Hi Rick..!
These scans are excellent! Thanks..!! The top edge along with the rear "keeper" look absolutely correct - that was the detail I wanted to see, along with the "finish" of the top edge... Based on what I can see - these certainly appear as original Krieg issue... Usually, the fakes/repros I've seen (even some that look like they were molded after an original set) have the following characteristics... - The top edge diamonds are not crisp on the fakes/repros. By comparision - yours look terrific!; - The overall diamond pattern is WAY off on some repros - yours, on the other hand, are exactly right..; - The top seam is canted either up or down, almost like a molding deficiency (your look great and certainly original!); - The originals are "roughly" cut on the top between the two keepers and fakes are usually polished "smooth" (yours look terrific!!); - On the back side - the screw holes on the fakes either are not "tapped", or the counter-sink around the holes are not correct - yours certainly look absolutely right... - On the outer side, where the grip screw sets, their is a definate diamond pattern to originals vs. the fakes/repros I've seen.. Yours sure have the original pattern in that area... - Etc... Rick - really nice!! Thanks for posting this thread and the additional photos!! They are a pleasure to look at..! Want to trade your Krieg grips for a pair of good Mauser grips ( ) Just kidding..!!! LOL!!! Now - about the snow up in this area, all I have to say is "ARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHH...." But, being indoors a lot isn't too bad, especially as there is an indoor range about a mile away... Hopefully, I'll have a chance to visit it this afternoon or weekend..!!! Rick - thanks again...!!! |

Watching with interest how high this pair of brown, coarse HK grips will go for...

Hi Rick..!
You are most welcome - thanks for the excellent follow up photo's..!!! Yes - I have seen a few examples of all the Krieg grips (wood, black, brown, fine checkered) and even some that were presented as "original Krieg grips" that looked like they came out of an "Easy Bake Oven" Pete: For the grips on e-Bay - they look pretty "ratty" (it could be the photo??), but if original, should fetch about $200... They'll probably go for more (a lot more!) as it's "ebay"!!! Need I say more?? |
