Problem with applet in my web page
Hello guys,
I am working with my new laptop w/ XP professional OS. Before I used a WIN 98 second edition system. It happens that the applet I use in the main page of my web site raises an error when loading the pictures to be shown. What is very strange is that when I am working with my web site copy on the hard disk, all work fine. Are you able to see the applet with a few photos in the main page of my web site with your system? Do you have any tip to solve this strange behaviour? Thank you Ciao Mauro

Mauro, no expert in this, but I observed this with a work laptop, for my problem, it was that Java was not on the system. i.e. that on my older win98 system it worked and not on the newer version, and I was told it was because the newer version of explorer did not have this component.

Well - here is the inside skinny about Microsoft and Java....
The newer version of IE does not include Java (as a VM (virtual machine)) given that Sun claimed infringement and wanted a licensing fee. So, Microsoft, at the heels of the Anti-Trust suit, decided to simply remove it as a core VM from IE. You can still download it - but frankly, I won't use JAVA on a website, given the security risks it poses to both the server and the client. And for all the sites I run - I have about 40,000 HTML pages - and nope - no JAVA...!!! The opening graphic on the LugerForum is nothing more then an animated GIF file - expertly rendered by our own John Sabato, used by permission of Mr. Henrotin, author of " La Connaissance du Luger,â? - which is an excellent publication. I agree John (couldn't have articulated it), but for work, there is a program called Placeware, and it would't work on my work laptop unltil I loaded Java on it, plus several sites, such as Mauro's and Randy's work if I have the Java component on it.

Hello and thank you for the information.
I am going to write an email to John in order to ask him a tip to switch from java applet to an animated gif file. Why in your understanding I am able to see the applet when I work with my site locally and not when I am in the net? In fact when I run my site from my hard disk, the applet loads the photos correctly when it does the same in the net it raises an error. Ciao Mauro
