The Swiss cross on the tool is not the original one. Swiss Army never used that tool, as I heard from Herr Schlatter, the former director of the archive in Eidgenossische Waffenfabrik. Swiss Army switched to new magazine, with a button suitable for the tool, officially after the serial number 750, even though pistols of the second variation are known before that number and pistols of the first variation before it.
Many of those tools are curremtly produced by Gun House in India

Could you give us some more info. about the outfit in India...? Do you happen to have one of their tools that we could post photos on the Luger Forum, so we can see the quality (or lack of quality) in their making of a take-down tool ?

Interesting that DWM lugers after the 1900 1st. variation had the "fatter" magazine button, but the Germans decided to develop/issue the typical take-down tool. Wonder why the Swiss decided not to adopt a similar tool.

What are your thoughts about the lack of take-down tool use by the Swiss...?

Maybe as one LF member posted previously and jokingly, the Swiss were heartier people with stronger hands...than their German counterparts <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

I am very happy the Mr. Allara join us in the Lugerforum. Actually Roberto is an Italian big expert not only in the Luger domain but also in several gun topics. He is also the President of the Italian Collectors Association. I really believe that Roberto shall increase the quality of our discussion.

The main purpose of the adoption of an automatic pistol was to give a gun having a good fire capacity to the cavalry. Of course a magazine can't be reloaded staying on an horse, even using a take-down tool
