Hello Rick,

Thanks for the link to the tasty photos.!

Forum member, Mauro Baudino (user # 16), is quite the post-war Mauser buff...

You might want to send him a Private Message to see what other photographic jewels (or even pistols) he might share with you.

One of his lugers made the Forum's Luger Of The Month...

Regards,

Pete... <img src="graemlins/yltype.gif" border="0" alt="[typing]" />

Mauro is also going to publishing a book on the Artillery Luger in the near future...

Dear friends,
I am very happy concerning what you wrote before.

I post the last release of my book to the editor some weeks ago. I really hope, after 4 years of efforts, that the book will be published by the end of year. I keep you informed..

Now I am in Boston in order to attend some meetings concerning software maintenance. I would like to spend the weekend in New York.

Do you know some armouries specialised in Luger in this city?

Thanks a lot.

Ciao

Pronto, Mauro !

Cannot help with any NYC luger shops...maybe some other Forum members will have ideas...

Will your book be available through Internet sales or will it be available through book dealers in the USA ?

What is the title of your up-coming book ?

Enjoy your visit to the States...be careful in your travels...but have lots of fun !

Regards,

Pete... <img src="graemlins/yltype.gif" border="0" alt="[typing]" />

Mauro, one of the all-time Greats in NYC was(or is) Robert Able. I think he was on Lexinton Ave in the 50th Street area. When I was a slovenly youth he had Bins of Lugers.

If you are going to be in NYC, New Jersey is just across the river and Sarco is in NJ.

You brought back some happy memories, as I used to hang around Robert Abels shop in the mid 1940's as a callow youth of about 15 years of age. I think Mr. Abels must have been around 40 years old at the time, so that would make him around 100 years old today, so I doubt he is still in business. Anyway, as young as I was, I bought a couple of nice things from him. Another hangout of mine was Abercrombie & Fitch on Fifth Avenue near 42nd St.

Tante Auguri Mauro!

You have certainly caught me by surprise, ...I thought we had agreed long ago that if you ever came to the U.S. you were going to let me know in advance, and I was to do the same when I am headed toward Europe...

If you are on the east coast, and will be travelling near the Washington DC area, please call me so we can get together for a good meal. No Luger shops in the area that I know of, but plenty of good food and conversation.

Even if we can't get together, we can at least have a conversation while we don't have to pay international phone rates. I will send you my phone numbers for both my office and home via Private message. (Check your profile at the top of the page.) If I am not at either place leave me a phone number where you can be reached during the evening this weekend and I will call you.

Ciao!... John

Dear friends,
I thank you very much for the advises. Now I am in Boston and I spent a very interesting week end in N.Y.

I was with other colleagues that donâ??t share with me the passion for the Luger so, in order to be polite, I spent my time looking at the monuments and not at the armouries. In any case I take note of all addresses for another time.

For Pete, that asks some info about the book: The title is â??Appunti sulle Luger Artiglieriaâ? in English sound like â??Notes about Luger Artilleryâ?. I think this is the first book that analyses only the Luger Artillery model, from the Imperial Prototype until the last production. All variations are taken into account. A big part is related both to the use of pistol in the WWI and to the accessories. 166 pages and 170 pictures.

I can provide you more information in the near future, maybe a English translation of the summary.

Thanks again for the kind notes.

Ciao

Mauro,

Our adopted daughter, Celena, is living full time in Firenza...(aka Florence).

If I buy one of your books in the near future when it is available, I can have her do a full translation for me...

Let us all know on the Forum when your book will be available here in the USA...

Regards,

Pete... <img src="graemlins/yltype.gif" border="0" alt="[typing]" />
