New .30 cal arrived
Yesterday I picked up my new .30cal stainless gun. This weekend I will get some scans posted but if you just picture a 1900 AE in stainless, that is what it looks like. 4.75" barrel, grip safety, and dished toggles. It has the new OFM logo on the front toggle link which is almost as unreadable as the DWM logo. A nice crisp American eagle over the chamber and it is complete. It looks great! <img border="0" alt="[jumper]" title="" src="graemlins/jumper.gif" /> Purists might not like them but the new guns keep the design alive and well.

Just curious - why did you choose .30 cal vs 9mm?

Jerry,
My introduction to Lugers was a 1930's comercial in .30cal with a 4.75" barrel and that kind of set what my expectations are. Plus I have a 9mm arty and a 6" stainless. |

Well, I went to the range yesterday and met Dwight Gruber. All that I had were cartriges with soft lead tips. They did not feed at all in either the stainless gun or a new Interarms Mauser. Both guns were very accurate but would not chamber the lead tipped cartriges at all. I will try to get some FMJ cartriges and give them a try.
When I get home, I will see if Dwight sent me the pictures that he took to show both the new pistol and his 1900 next to it. They give an interesting comparison. Until I get home and can forward the pictures, all that I can say is lead tip bullets do not work! I will order some Winchester rounds and see if I can contact a loader that I have purchased from in the past. |

Steve,
While I was still working at NASA I was required to machine much Stainless Steel, and the best Lubricant to prevent seizing was The Lubricating Wax product Used for Lubricating Band files, Saber Files, Band saws and such. It can now be found in hardware stores as a lubricating wax stick for sliding aluminum doors and windows. Try rubbing the nose of the lead in this wax, It may possibly work. I hope so. ViggoG |
