Going to look at holsters
Hi Forum Members,
I am going with a friend to look at a fellow's 'distress' sale items. Quite an impressive inventory, but I would like opinions on what to look for (or) be wary of for these items- $150 1939 German SS Luger holster w/ tool & stamps $65 1939 German Whermacht Luger holster w/stamps I'm afraid that's all I have to go on, until we see them. I'll have my camera- if I am permitted to photograph the items - not really sure. I have noted the advice to smell the leather, and pay attention to the stiching. Any other suggestions, recommendations, cautions?? Thanks. Regards, Fritz. |

Fritz, There is no SS holster. Do not pay a premium for it because of this. Depending on the tool, if it is an original it could be worth $50.00 or so. If there is SS stamped into the leather it is BOGUS.
Look for age and wear, patina so to speak. These could very well be knockoffs, repros, and if so they are worth $25.00 a piece. If they look too new I would be suspect. If you have an original holster, look it over carefully, inside and out, take it along to compare even.

Thanks for the pointers Jerry.
Well my buddy spent most of the afternoon reading through the forum posts for information. He ended up buying a shooter S/42 and both holsters. No evidence of any "SS" markings - the seller simply added that term to the description text. I think we have another one hooked! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> I will be encouraging him to join the forum and post some descriptions and photos of his holsters and Luger! Watch for a new member from here in Michigan. Regards, Fritz. |
