Question Real or Old Repro ??

Hello,

I need opinions on this Arty Mag pouch. Black leather, brass stud, light leather cracking on top flap. Stitching looks black on the front but dirty natural color elsewhere. Comparison with a well used original pouch indicated a well made repro if it's one......At least 2 other guys looked at it and we dont know if it's an original ( un-issued ?? ) or a well made repro.....

HELP needed !!

I have photos from almost every angle if requested.....

MARK

Mark,

Don't trust your eyes. trust your nose and sense of taste.

Smell it. It should smell of old tobacco smoke or like the inside of of your grandma's handbag on a hot summer day. Take a small bite out of the flap and let your mouth tell you whats there.

If you taste pipe/cigar tobacco smoke, it is probably good; if you taste anything acidic or salty, it is probably bad.

If that is a repro, somebody is really scary good at making a fake.

Mark, Tom gives good advice but don't eat the thing! Ron is correct too...I have looked it over and it has too many tell tale signs that it is old and in my opinion , period early 1900's. The brass closure stud has a nice patina, the leather is nicely aged and that is not something you can do easily or expertly and thusly correctly. The stitching is worn and worn through in the correct places and I would bet my bottom dollar that it original. Now, is it Portugese(AE), Imperial Navy, or Artillery? You might never know for certain. Jerry Burney
