Default Help with 1940 Luger price

New member, I have always wanted a Luger and I have found one but not sure on the price. I have not personally seen the Luger yet but do have pictures. From what i can tell it is a code 42 with 1940 date. Original finish, All numbers matching, including the mag. Only 1 mag comes with it. Also included is a holster, but it doesn't look like most the holsters I see with Luger's. As stated I have always wanted a Luger and this one is fairly close to home, but before I drive a little over an hour I wanted to know what it is worth. I can't post pics yet, but would be happy to e-mail the pics if anybody would like to see them.
thanks

We will be happy to help as soon as extensive, clear photos of all surfaces and markings are posted.

Barring some rarity, $1500 will keep you out of trouble.

Hi Klint, is the stock lug on your pistol been growned off? I just don't see it in your photo. The holster is not traditional Luger holster. Are there any marks or stamps in it?

A clear picture of the serial number on the bottom of the magazine would be necessary to determine if it is the original matching mag.

I had a pic of the magazine but my inbox pitched it. It is in fact #'s matching to the gun. The holster I'm not sure on, the seller says no date is on it. As for the lug I'm hoping the photo is just not showing it. Like I said I have not looked at the pistol yet just these pics. Before I made the drive I wanted to know what it was worth. What do you guy think on price?

Surely no stock lug. A deal breaker IMO.

Did all Lugers come with a stock lug?

Hi Klynt,

I think that Tom (above) was trying to make the point that for us to help you with the magazine, we need to get a good sharp look at the base and any other markings on the body.

People know that a matching magazine is extremely rare to find, and adds quite a bit to the value of a Luger.

With that in mind, there are many matching magazines that didn't leave the factory that way, but were - in fact - produced in the good ole' USA by shaving down and re-stamping one that originally didn't match. We call that "Waffenfabrik USA".

To try and determine if the matching magazine is the one that left the factory with the pistol, we need a look to see what the shape of the base and appearance of the stampings are.

Marc

How much value does a matching serial # mag add to the Lugers. I have found another 42 BYF luger for alot cheaper, all #'s match but the mag.
