Default Hello/New/Looking To Buy A Shooter

Hi there, It's been a while since I have posted here. I will be getting a small settlement next year and I'd like to get a nice shooter for around a 1,000.00. Could someone please give me a good source to get one and what would a good shooter would run. Thanks.

You have to search a lot in all web sites devoted to selling guns. Even Simpsons in Galesburg, IL has some around that price. With any online sellers, you take a gamble on what you are buying. I did buy a nice 1920, all matching numbers, in cal. 30 liger a few years ago thru Gunbroker and got lucky with it. I prefer hands on buying tho. Of cource, here on this website you can find something and feel confident in buying it.

You will frequently find a $1k shooter on the trader here.
When you have money in hand they will be hard to find though!

You can look at Simpsons Ltd. and Legacy Collectables for starters. The for sale section here is also worth a look.

Right now there are many shooters on the auction site Proxibid. I often browse their listings and did so last night. My reaction was, dang it, I wish I was in the market for a shooter because there are some good ones there. Parts mismatch and refinish mainly. Registration on Proxibid is fairly quick and easy. The nice thing about buying a shooter via auction is, given the fact that the pistol has known issues (hence its shooter status) the risk of getting an unpleasant surprise when it arrives is lower. Plus you can typically buy via credit card - if you buy a shooter and it doesn't shoot, I would think the CC company could apply enough pressure for you to get a return and refund, no matter what seller's declared policy is.

The good news about buying via Proxibid is, I've bought three fine shooters at good prices via Proxibid in the past. The bad news is, on two of them I thought I was buying collectibles but they became shooters when I inspected and noticed non-matching parts or refinish. But the prices were so good that I kept them rather than argue with the auction company. One I resold for more than I paid, the other two I still have. So overall despite seller misrepresentations I have to say Proxibid has worked for me.
