Post URGENT! Luger barrel #s??

I am going to look at a 1914 ERFURT "Navy" (6") commercial.
Should there be any proofs or marks on barrel, other than Ser#?? Need to know ASAP!.

Thanks! Ron

Ron,
There is no such thing as an Erfurt Navy commercial. Erfurt did not make 6" barrel Lugers and being a government arsenal, they produced only military Lugers, no commercials.

Ron,
Thanks! I nearly, in my impulsive nature, made a costly mistake. George Anderson , also gave me the same information. Thanks again! Maybe I'll learn to slow down in the future. If we ever meet. The "Wild Turkey Lattes" are on me!

Ron,

Both Ron and Geo. gave you very sound advice.

Not sure what the asking price for this made-up 6" luger might be, but if reasonable ( $ 400-600)...do not discount it as a shooter...especially if fit with a real (or repro) Navy rear sight.

My 6" 30 cal. luger and my 8" 9 mm luger are some of the most enjoyable guns in my shooter collection...

Regards,

Pete... <img border="0" alt="[typing]" title="" src="graemlins/yltype.gif" />

Here in the South we don't drink no lattes. We drink Wild Turkey in the more perfect and pure state.

Peter,
It's a pretty "heavily" re-blued Erfurt 1914
I was confused by "Lugers at Random" pg 176. I read the text, but failed to notice that this pertained to "Double dated" Lugers.I thought if I had in deed found a rare 6" Erfurt. It would be worth restoring. The guy is asking $799.00. I offered $700.00, he said yes. He lives about 110 mi away. I was going to meet him halfway, tonight, until I got word from George and Ron. I canceled. Check "Gunsamerica", Luger, pg 2, his name is Walter. That's the gun.
Thanks again guys! Ron

Go into The Barrons Den in south Sprigfeild. He always has a few nice lugers in there. And you can shoot a real Tompson while you are at it.
Walter Emanoffer is the owner. He is a real nice man to deal with. And he has a realy cool shop.

Ron, Russ won't steer you wrong, he is one-class dude, and I trust him with your life Seriously, if Russ thinks they are good, believe him.

Also, $700 is a bit high for a shooter, but not a bad price? As a 6 inch barrel would cost you a $100 to install?

Russ,
I've known Walt for years. I just bought two P.38s, a Sig 220 in 30 Luger, and a 1934 Mauser from the Estate he has on consignment. He's only got one Swiss commercial, $2595.00. And a "bunch" of HI-Powers. I live about 7mi from his store. We call it Walt's museum. "If you want to buy it fine!If you want to talk about it, thats fine too!Just don't expect any discounts!" Great Guy. He made a fortune as an arms importer. This is his retirement play room.

Ron, that is great, will make a trip to meet Walt, sounds like my type of guy!

If you can make the Reno show, do it (I can't make this one), buy some stuff from Russ, as we use and abuse his table as a point of reference! )

Yaknow... $700 isn't that bad a price for a 6 inch shooter if it has a NAVY rear sight on it, repro sights cost about $350-400 new..., but it certainly wouldn't have much collector value.

If it is a parts gun, you have to be sure that the front sight base is the correct size for a Navy rear sight... this sight base is taller to work with the taller rear sight... If it is a new standard 6" barrel, it would shoot WAY high if the sight base is too low.

John, It's not a true NAVY. It's just a 6" re-barreled, "buffed" and re-blued Erfurt.

Russ,
Have you ever heard about the time the Oregon state hiway crew blew up the whale carcas at Yachats, back in the 80s? They blocked traffic on 101, and packed it full of Dynamite, when they set it off, a 200lb chunk landed on the roof of the first car in line? That was Walt's brand new Buick. Just bought it, and his wife was in the car. Have him tell you about it, you'll laugh your butt off. It's not that funny, but the way he tells the story is hillarious.

Ed,
Walt is kind of a legend around this area. He's a big rolly-polly German from NJ. He's got a really neat store. He's got ceiling fan-lamps, (belt driven) and solid oak display cases, out of an 1800s San Fransisco Hotel. Check www.thebaronsden.com. It's not a real good picture, but will give you an idea.
I wish I knew what all he has in his personal collection. He's got a NAZI mothers medal,in the box,(8 Kids), signed by Himmler. On display at the store.Just an example.
Ron
PS The dopey lookin' character in the picture is Ray. He gives the handgun classes, and runs the store for Walt.Good Guy.

Ron,

If you switch to the "Gunshow" section on the Luger Forum, you will see some more info about the Reno show in April.

Several of us hang out at Russ Withem's/Ken Coyle'
s tables A-13/A-14 and we get together for steak dinners on Friday night at the Hilton's Steak House. You are welcomed to join us.

Regards,

Pete.. <img border="0" alt="[typing]" title="" src="graemlins/yltype.gif" />
