Anyone have an idea when (month) byf 41 serial: 8773-y might have been made?

* Probably very late Oct., 1941 to early Nov., 1941....give or take a couple of weeks is my guess.
* 126,000 made from the "n" block wrapping around into the "a" block. Few made in the "n" block, more in the "o" block, then pretty solid until the no suffix ("ns") block, and then a share with the byf '42's in the "a" block.
* Approximately 10, 000 per month.
* Does your example have wood or black plastic grips?? Is (are) the magazine(s) fxo aluminum or black plastic bottom??

Bob, I agree with your Novenber 1941 estimate. The byf 41 went into the B-Block. Serial Number 1121b is the highest I have recorded.

* Agreed; I've recorded 1121b - byf'41 also.
* Just thought it was statistically insignificant relative to the approximate date question posed above.
* Still; got to keep the WWW as accurate as possible, I suppose, for posterity.

Thanks for the info. Just got back from a trip. The mag is plastic bottomed. It looks extruded. It has an aluminum follower. --- The gun is a highly polished (reblued, mixed) byf 41 w/chocolate brown wooden grips. The frame is 8773-y but the upper is 8866 (w/no letter on the left side of the forward receiver just back of the barrel). This is the only P.08 I have so I don't know if the serial number block letter would be stamped on the frame only or on other parts too. I am more familiar with P.38s and they have the serial letter stamped on several parts of the gun. Again, thanks for the info.

Hi Lee, the letter suffix is only found on the front of the frame for Mauser Military Lugers. Other models may have the suffix on the underside of the barrel. Hope this helps!

Sure does. Given the above info then 8866-y would have been made around the middle of Nov. '41. Seem right? Also, from the above the byf '41s ended in the b-block at the end of '41 and the byf '42s ended in the a-block in the first part of '42 as Mauser ramped up the P.38s. Where these the last Lugers made in WWII? Why the plastic stocks when wood had worked so well for so long? Did the last Mauser Lugers go to any special place or unit?

My focus recently has been the P.38. Just got an AC41 in the i-block that was made in Nov. of '41. Go figure?

Big 50, According to most books, the last 4,000 P08s (BYF/42s) made by Mauser in the M & N suffix blocks, when to Bulgaria. Many of these turned up later reparked in Canada. Kreighoff continued making a small quantitiy of PO8s for the Luftwaffe until the end of WW2 in 1945. TH

My VoPo( byf 1941 with new barrel) has serial# 5531 s (almost all matching numbers...)
