need history of luger
the luger menu links under Heller arms. listed under lister pistols for sale the one gun shown at the top left. I need to know some history on this item as a friend has the same gun and wants to sell it to me. The serial # is 979 and it looks like all the parts at match, could someone give me a ballpark price and if this is a luger to own, I'm a newbie to lugers

If this is the pistol you are talking about...
the best place to get info on a P-38 is our sister website: www.P38forum.com regards, John http://boards.rennlist.com/upload/p38-0381_IMGsm.JPG |

It sounds like the gun has been refinished
which means it has little collector value, but ask your question on the P38forum.com and someone there will tell you what a refinished P-38 is worth... I would guess between $250 and $350... if it is in nice shooting shape.

Re: It sounds like the gun has been refinished
A reblued AC42 (Walther-made in 1942) is worth about $350 with a strong bore. The serial number on an AC42 may be repeated on the magazine. If it is not reblued and has that original issue magazine (it came with two mags and a holster) then it is conservatively worth $500 in 90% finish, or thereabouts. There are four important parts that were originally fitted to the gun and numbered uniquely to the gun--the frame, the slide, the barrel and the locking block (under the barrel). Check all four and the magazine. Verify the finish is not redone. That will tell you what you need to know about the value from $350 to $600.
