Default Reworked 1916 Navy

Hello everybody

I would like to get some advices about this reworked Navy

It has been reblued no doubt, very close to orinal

Barrel is not original. Toggle shows severla markings of ( what I guess ) salt water corrosion

Magazine is not original, trigger is not matching, firing pin is not numbered and grips are not original ( after 1945 I think, because got once a new pair very similar)

I have some doubt about the frame, which is short type, because the 1916 on rail is lacking. The "ears" on back of frame are from a different shape as those of all my pre 1918 Lugers, not as flat on top but some slightly "rouded " ....? otherwise all dimensions and details are similar to pre 1918 frames ( very different from Mauser frames)

Serial is 1748 , and 48 can be found on toggle parts, and other parts on frame.

Other strange detail the "eagle over N " between the navy markings ( apologies for chalk powder )....

Hi Pierre, Thanks for posting photos of your interesting Navy. Before sticking my neck out over this one, I'd like to see more. Specifically, the rear toggle flange, the proof on the top left corner of the breech block, the bottom of the receiver lug and the serial number on the front of the frame. Regards, Norm

Hi Norm

Here are the pictures You asked for ( I hope) The gun has obviously been sanded . I think that maybe the "ears" on the frame look "rouded" due to the sanding ? The first part of the rail on the left of the frame is not flat , when seen towards a light, but slightly curved , other mark of sanding ( I guess)
many thanks for the advice

Hi Pierre, Thanks for posting those additional photos. I'd still like to see a photo of the left side of the breech block, like the one below of my 1916 Navy. Your gun seems to have been assembled from parts of several different guns, possibly during the Weimar era. So far the only part that appears to be from an original 1916 Navy is the receiver. You can see that the number 4 on the receiver lug on both your gun and mine has a distinctive "foot". This foot is absent from the 4's on your gun's frame, barrel, and rear toggle, which leads me to believe that these parts have been renumbered to match the receiver. It's still a very intriguing Navy. Best regards, Norm

I wrote it from the beggining : Barrel is not original ! it looks like new ...... but it is a 15 cm barrel....
Here is one picture that I failed to send ....

The 4 has a "foot" , and the second part of the breech-block has also a 48 inside with a "foot" on the 4..but the end part hasn't a 4 like these...

So Norm I think that the receiver and the two first pieces of the breech were together...

I think that the gun was reworked after WWII , because of the fine rework , sanding and brand new barrel

Many thanks for your very interessting remarks
