1918/1920 DWM Unit Markings or No?
I just picked up my first Luger, a 1918/1920 DWM, and couldn't seem to find a unit marking on the pistol. There also didn't seem to be any ground off spots to indicate the markings had been there at one point. So what I'm wondering is, should my Luger have had unit markings or were they not marked late in the war?

1918 is the year of production. Alot of 1918 didnt see battle in ww1 because of the end of the war. apparently it was around after ww1 with the 1920 property mark wich is a proof of german government ownership. if it doesnt have anything on the grip strap it probably wasnt issued to a unit or police. a serial # ( to track date of manufacture , etc with archives) and good pics of all sides and top and grip straps would be needed to give a good opinion (from an expert....not me).

Hi Gavin, Unit marking was officially discontinued in 1916. About 20% of P08s made prior to 1916 are unit marked, while fewer than 2% of those made later. Regards, Norm
