1940 "42" code

As promised, some pix of my newly acquired Luger. I took these in high resolution, so if anyone wants to see something larger, I can probably accommodate.

Now the questions...

I was under the impression that the "correct" magazine for this year was blued.

What's up with the stamping on the inside of the RH grip? There's also something hand written that I can't make out - I might try a rubbing to see if it will come clear.

From the view of holding the gun, the normal barrel proof is at the 3 O'clock position. There is another proof (Unpictured) that I just noticed at about the 10:30 position. Usual I assume.

nice ww2 piece , have you checked the internals? looks like your missing the takedown lever spring. Did it come with that case?
Did you find it local or abroad?

It was a GB purchase out of Tennessee.

Internals are great, nice and clean and all matching numbers. I am, however, ignorant of the takedown lever spring...

Case came from England.

With regards to the magazine, the aluminum bottom could have been switched onto a different earlier nickled tube. The bottom looks to be one that would go with a blued tube for a 1939/42 P08.

Congratulations on a nice WW-II Mauser Luger. I particularly like these because they are so well made.

If you need the little curved L shaped take down lever spring, I think you can get them from Tom Heller "lugerdoc". It slides into the bottom of the hole the take down lever fits into to provide a detent that keeps it in the locked position while firing. If it's missing, the take down lever will slide right out when you've got it in dis-assembly position.

I have to check, but I may have a blue body magazine that had it's base swapped improperly from a nickel plate one. If so, I'll let you know. Perhaps we can have GT swap them for us...

The takedown lever *does* detent into place - rather well. With that said, I'm not seeing a spring, but I'm researching this now. Any pointers to a picture would be helpful!

Yea, it wasn't the most glam shot, was it? What do you expect for "quick"? I was threatening the guys on a different forum that I was going to post a picture holding the Luger while wearing one of my dance costumes - but that takes at least an hour of prep time, so I haven't (yet)!

Further fumbling popped the takedown lever out of the gun - no spring. I'll PM LugerDoc.

With the spring in place the lever won't come out, only rotate 90 degrees. As is should.

Your gun actually looks a lot better than the pictures on gunbroker. Don't know much about WWII Lugers, but it looks alright to me. Congrats - there's nothing like your first one.

If Marc doesn't have a blued mag tube for you, I do have a blued one that also has the wrong base. I 've been looking for a nickel tube for a while so I would be happy to work out a swap with you (via GT). You can PM me if you are interested.
