Default Leather lube?

Any recomendations on a conditioning agent to use on the leather hinge piece of a 1918 holster? It's in real good shape now, but I'm concerned that it may crack if I start to use it.

Connolys works well, it will darken the leather a bit -

be advised that ANY conditioner to keep it soft usually softens the leather, thus ruining it.

Also, what does starting to use it mean? If you plan on using an original holster as a carry to the range or whatever, I would find one thats not in the best of shape or a better made repro.

I use Nikwax for my hiking camping stuff but have been a little cautions about using it on holsters for fear of softening it as Ed mentioned. Worked good on my sholder holster for my social piece though.
