What is the benefit of having a Class 03 C&R license for the handgun collector? The website I refered to states that all handgun purchases must be handled by a Class 01 FFL dealer, even for handguns over 50 years old.

Sorry, I failed to mention I am a California resident and bound by the California laws for C&R license.

The C&R license will allow you to purchase C&R items at out of state shows and stores without having to be shipped thru a Calif dealer. Those pistols shipped to Calif are susposed to go thru a "Transfer Dealer" so that Calif can get the addition revenue from the DROS fee that the dealer has to send in with each sale, plus he will also want to charge you sales tax. Thanks Tom. I think I need to do more homework. I am under the impression that even if I had a Class 3 C&R, if I bought a Luger at a Las Vegas gun show and brought it back here to California, I would still need to transfer the purchase through a Class 01 FFL dealer in California and I still must undergo a DROS check. If I could avoid having to transfer through a Class 01 dealer for any out of state purchase of any handgun older than 50 years old, then that would certainly be worth it.
