Default Grip Screw Question Answer for Leo

Most of the grip screw threads are Whitworth 3/16x32 TPI. Some are Whitworth 4.5mmx.8 pitch. These are usually on earlier guns in random samples. The 4.5 mm screw will be a loose fit in the 3/16" hole and the 3/16" screw will bind in the 4.5 mm hole.

Default Whitworth 3/16 x 30..... :)

Hi Hugh! I have messed around a bit with the grip screw situation,...and here is what I've found...the correct thread is 30 threads per. inch, and not 32...this doesn't become apparent until you start trying to thread the screw all the way thru the hole.....the 3/16 x 32 will ty up just about flush with the inside of the frame, making one believe it is correct in a shorter length!! I used this to my advantage when I was making fixtures and tooling for custom grips...I once set my lathe up to the appropriate gearing to cut the 3/16 x 30 threads, (finding dies in that thread is/was pretty tough!) and the sample screw fit all my luger frames perfectly...I think the thread is as stated in the print, other problems may be the result of different attempts over many different owners, the first thing that seems to comes off a luger is the grips! till...later....G.T.
