Default Great News For Mystery Movie Buffs !

Longmire Season 5 and Bosch Season 3 have both been approved and are filming as we speak!

Longmire is the TV and A&E streaming series about a Wyoming sheriff and his deputies. Bosch is about an LAPD detective. Both solve contemporary crime mysteries.

Longmire is based on the Craig Johnson books, of which there are 12+ depending on whether you cound Kindle or not (I don't). Bosch is based on the Michael Connelly book series, of which there are 19. Connelly also writes the Lincoln Lawyer series of novels, up to 5 at this writing. Connelly also wrote 4 other mystery novels with characters from the two main series. The characters also intersect in several of the novels.

Robert Taylor (the Aussie) is the star of Longmire. Titus Welliver stars in Bosch.

Longmire seasons 1-4 are available on DVD. Bosch seasons 1-2 are also available on DVD if you know where to look...But Bosch can also be streamed from Amazon, who produced the series. Canadian TV also broadcasts Bosch.

The TV series and books are outstanding. I collect both, in hardcover [books] and DVD.

I knew there was something I liked about you!

A neat thing about A&E hosting/producing/streaming Longmire and Amazon producing/hosting/streaming Bosch is that they release the whole season at once, online. For a price, of course, but it means the DVD is released relatively sooner than if it were a weekly network TV show.

I like Bosch, both the books and on tv; Longmire I'll have to check out.

I had been reading Grisham's series of legal novels and Wambaugh's collection of police books when "The Lincoln Lawyer" movie came out. It was pretty neat so I got the book and that lead me to the other Connelly books, including the Bosch series. "The Lincoln Lawyer" was made into a pretty good movie.

Johnson has a web site that is pretty cool too. He describes annual "Longmire" holidays in his small town in Wyoming. He also sells T-shirts based on events in his books. I bought two.

http://www.craigallenjohnson.com/

Although not the same genre, I also enjoyed the TV series "The Unit". It ran for 4 seasons, and all are available on DVD.

+1 A great series. The network made a large mistake when they cancelled that series.

I just got the 4 'Unit' DVD sets. I already have the complete 'The Closer' series; most of the 'JAG' series, all of 'Dexter', all 'The Glades", all 'Life', and the entire 'The Prisoner' series.

I also have the complete 'Rocky & Bullwinkle' DVD set, with every episode of Rocky, Dudley, Fractured Fairy Tales, etc...

Gotta have a change of pace from all those drama shows...

I've been watching a Netflix series call "Peaky Blinders" about the rise of a British gangster family from Birmingham right after World War I. There are four seasons already available at Netflix, if you can endure a marathon.
Great acting, nice story (the main character is a decorated WWI veteran) and some very nice firearms in the screen.

I watched the entire Longmire series on Netflix, a couple or three episodes per sitting. Well-written and well-performed, as well as thought-provoking.

Unfortunately Bosch is not available (yet?) on Netflix, and I don't receive TV--although I haven't tried the online outlets for current TV programming.

Peaky Blinders is just as excellent, a real page-turner--if such a thing can be possible for a TV show! One of my buddies sports Tommy's haircut, in appreciation.

My gold standard for comparison is still Breaking Bad--which includes the current prequel Better Call Saul. Both are written with an attention to detail that is absolutely insane!

If you're looking for Wiemar Germany's detective action, I heartily recommend the series Babylon Berlin. It's not particularly political, but a bit of the intrigue foreshadows what we all know was coming.

+1 on Babylon Berlin. Those Germans had some really loose morals regarding lifestyles for the times.

I've read that they are assembling as much of the original cast as they can for a feature length movie that will conclude the the tale of where and when the 'Deadwood" series ended.

Frankly, the new Westworld has been fantastically written as well. That said Longmire was an amazing show as well. If any of you have seen Generation War, it’s also a great miniseries

Amazon typically releases their original series on DVD 6 to 12 months after the streaming release. I like to keep them on DVD and watch them repeatedly. I always find things I missed first time around. Same with books - I must have read Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn a dozen times each. And I get something new out of them every time.

Right,
I'll watch season 1-4 again, and they will be like new; it does not take me long to forget.
