Auction price
Probably compared to the majority of you guys here I’m a relative newbie to collecting Lugers. I purchased a few recently, mostly WWI vintage. And I feel that I’ve been pretty good at not over paying.
But you guys tell me if you’re in agreement here. I’m trying to get more of a community feel here. But the price paid for this auction seems way out of line for the going rate. The numbers don’t match. The (massive) import stamp is a major turn off from a collector standpoint. No insight if all the parts are original or broken. Thoughts? https://texas-b.hibid.com/lot/846939...q=&ref=catalog |

I wouldn't pay even half that amount.

Hi Cody,
Welcome to the forum! I hope it was not you who bid $2,000.00 for that gun, as the others have said, it's way over priced. You can do much better if you buy from one of these highly respected on-line dealers. They are Simpson Ltd. and Legacy Collectibles. Both have well illustrated web sites. Norm |

Did they appraise it or a reserve. Do you mind telling what auction? Did they have a return policy? Where can we see their description offered~

I found it at hibid.com. I did bid but backed out after it hit above $800. Just totally ridiculous. I have a few P08s myself but didn’t pay anywhere close to that for what this was. I noticed it was non-matching since the side plate was a different number than other numbered parts that were visible. The import stamp was a real turn off. I was looking at it as just a shooter but $2,000? I feel sorry for anyone that got caught up in the auction and didn’t know what it was really worth.

Clearly someone had to have it. Whoever signed off on the location and type of import marking should be flogged.

It s a local auction, folks rarely see lugers (even tho not rare), and local auctions infrequently are cheap, most of the time, much higher usually than a face to face.
Yes, I think 800-1100 is about right, and most auction bidders lose sight of the auction amount added to the total. |

I am not a Luger expert but that is way to much. I bought two Lugers last weekend. One of them has non-matching parts. Its also an arsenal rework with a different "Cannon" matched to the frame and renumbered. Its a shooter, I payed $400 for it. Both were being sold from an estate. I even told them that if they took the time to advertise it they could get more but were happy just to sell it and be done.
