Can anyone identify the serial suffix letter on this 1916 Erfurt?

Wink

Looks like an "N" that wasn't fully stamped or has been partially buffed away to me.

That is a fantastic photo showing the 'line-up' marks on the barrel and the magazine.

Aaron, according to Still, 1916 Erfurts were serialized from 13 to 5764g. I realize that 7761 is a few thousand above 5764, but "g" seems more reasonable, based on the reported range

Before I checked, I would have said "g", "n" or "q". And it was either a bad strike or a rework.

Aaron
Costanzo has a listing of Luger serial number letter suffixes in his book. Your letter may be a partly struck "a",

Yup, I could agree with an "a" <img src="graemlins/c.gif" border="0" alt="[ouch]" />

By the sharpness & crispness of the chamfers on this gun, I would say that it has never been buffed.
