Default New DWM Police H.P. Luger question

I'm looking at a newly surfaced and unreported "H.P." unit marked BKIW DWM Police Luger sn 7258 in the "u" block. It has a sear safety and no stock lug.

I'll inspect it tomorrow, but I have a question for collectors familiar with them.

The unit mark appears normally on the front gripstrap, but it also has been stamped with serif typeface dies on the front right side of the receiver (where military proofs are normally located on military accepted pistols).

H. P. 444.

Have any others in the H. P. marked pistols found in the "u" block been marked this way?

Thanks, Marc

I'd have to look up the 'u' block - there are two types of HP marked lugers

Yes,
I have one.
Pretty typical of Hesse state markings; as is removal of the stock lug.
Why the "xx" ? Don't know or is it "secret"?

Thanks Don, I acquired it this afternoon, and have updated the original post.

it's all matching, in 9mm and included the matched and H.P.444. stamped plated tin aluminum bottom magazine with an "Asterisk S" acceptance mark.

I've got some fixup to do, and will post pictures soon.

The receiver is marked in the same manner as Don's above.

Thanks again for the background information.

Marc,

Sounds like a standard H.P. police pistol to me.

Regarding value, these don't bring more than most police marked pistols, but they are more interesting than most. To retain full value it should have at least one matching mag, spine stamped with unit mark.

Dwight,
I have a commercial DWM stamped with police markings, unit and unit # on the grip strap. The mag is stamped with the same unit # on the bottom as is stamped on the gun. Was it common for them to do this. I always thought the mags should match the guns serial#.

You should start a new post with your pistol and include picture.
Otherwise this will get way confusing.

See HWIS pp. 255-63 for more info on H.P. pistols.
