I have read all the fun poked at (chrome) and silver or nickle lugers on here but has there ever been a case of a luger being plated during wartime for a officer that has been proven? Thanks clint

Hey 3006,

Yeah there are some. But they are all Kreighoff presentation pieces. Herman Goering's is the most famous one of the group. Ther are no, zero, nada, bumpkis, zilch ORIGINAL Mauser, BIKW, DWM or Erfurt factory plated pieces.

I don't think the WW2 German military would have smiled favorably on anyone taking one of their officially acquired and issued weapons and changing the finish for a presentation piece... Just would be uncharacteristic of them. After all, the gun would still belong to them...

Just about anything is possible given the large number of Lugers that were available on the commercial market around 1920. It's entirely possible one of these may have been plated as a gift to a member of the German Military or even one of the exports to other countries could have been fancied up as a gift. I can't imagine why someone going into combat would want something that shiny being anywhere near them though.
