New tall Luger sight inserts
I've had an on-going struggle getting my mix-master Navy 6" shooter to print down on the target, with the original front sight insert placing the shots about a foot high at the normal indoor ranges. So I went to a "tall Mauser" (rifle) front sight insert that measured right at .300". That did the job, however it looked very much like a pistol with a tall rifle front sight and it was too wide to allow the use of the rear sight.
Enter G. T., with his new, tall sight inserts. I got to try the GTLS250 model recently. It took very little filing to get it into the dovetail, but it is snug and not going anywhere. At the range yesterday at 50' the group centered about 3.5" high (standing position) over the point of aim. 115 gr. FMJ reloads. Then, bringing the target in to 25', the 6 shot, 1/2" group was barely 3/4" high, shot from kneeling, gun braced on a shooting bag. Yes, we have a winner! Perfect function, too. Given that the rear sight was set to 100 meters, I expect it to print a bit high, but it has to be within reason given the realistic ranges that I have available to me at this time. I'm looking forward to experimenting with the GTLS300 version, a full .300" tall, but understand that it may bring my shot placement down a bit too far. As always, Thanks G. T! On a side note, it is ironic that I also shot my new Springfield Armory lightweight 1911 compact carry gun, also 9mm. Had several loading/extraction FTF issues, and it would barely keep them in the size of a doorknob at 50'. I just couldn't help but casually make sure that my friends (all 1911 or Glock snobs) got a glimpse of my Luger target... dju |
