This little gun followed me home
A well used Ottoman era Colt 1849 Pocket copy, marketed by the company J. Nikitits Erben in Constantinople.
The caliber is 10mm, about .40. The cylinder is quite overdinensioned compared to the Colt original. The barrel model marking is funny, 'genuine Coll American Patent' (Vero Coll Americain Patent). J. NIKITITS was a Hungerian jewish trader who set up shop in Constantinople (Instanbul today). After his death his wife took over until the youngest son was old enough to take over. The company was mentioned in documents from 1942, so it seems to have had a long life. The company also acted as the importer for Mauser. |
