Swiss Commerical Opinions ?
One of our beginner Swiss luger nuts asked me to post this luger that is claimed to be a Swiss commerical pistol...
http://www.phoenixinvestmentarms.com/06swcomm662.htm It is odd in that it does not have any BUG or crown/N commercial proofs and has a few "left over" Ordnance proofs. The lack of depth of the "80" on the back tang of the rear toggle link below the rear sight indicates lots of metal loss during a refinish. Maybe some of the swiss Ordnance proofs on the left side receiver were lost as well ? If the gun were serial # 7080; that would squarely place it in the M1906 cross/sunburst Swiss contract range for an Ordnance pistol. Does it appear that maybe the "8" in front of the "7080" on the front of the frame and barrel were added ? The seller's ad surmizes this gun could have started out as serial # 708...but that is not possible as this would make it a very early M1900 Swiss luger and this one is a M1906...most curious luger...one worth studying a bit. Not sure if throwing $ 5500 at this one would make me sleep well at night if it were in my collection. What do you other Swiss guys think ? |

The circle-N in the lug well is a commonly seen DWM worker's mark.
My commercial-series database lists Swiss Commercial 87095, 87134, 87141. The first one -may- have an upright c/N proof, not confirmed. They are stuck in the middle of a series of 1921-dated 20DWM. What "leftover" ordinance marks am I missing, besides the Swiss cross on the barrrel? --Dwight |

That's the one Dwight...I suspect a few others were lost in the re-do process...
