Luger Holster ID

Can anyone identify this holster?

It came with its brass cleaning rod which has a T bar swivel top which can be indentified in the photo. The holster came with a very nice (early style DWM 7.65mm) Luger which fits perfectly in to the holster so does the magazine into the magazine comparment on the side. The inner holster flap lid does not have a compartment inside for a stripping/take-down
tool.

There are no visible manufacturers markings embossed into the leather anywhere on the holster inside or out. The belt loops to the rear are not sewn but secured by nickel rivets and so is the flap tongue on the front of the holster which fastens over a brass nipple. The magazine compartment has a flap which passes through a leather loop which can be seen in the photograph. And the pistol compartment does have the traditional lift up strap found on most conventional Luger Holsters.

The pistol (not illustrated) and holster came from a renowned collector in Finland.

Charles,

In Eugene Benders' smaller book "Military Holsters of WWII" on page 39 under the Finnish holster section, he shows several cleaning rods identical to what you have shown.

Text Added by Pete : Bender says the cleaning rods are for the Lahti pistols, not a luger.

The Finnish holsters shown in the book are somewhat similar to the one you show, but still a bit different. Maybe yours is different as it was for a 4-3/4" barrelled luger and not the standard 4" length. Use of metal rivots on your holster and some shown in the book are also a bit similar.

What is odd about your holster...is that the back view is quite similar to some of the Bulgarian holsters...and the side pouch with its own little closure flap...but much more elaborate in how it closes...

Is the lift-out strap secured with a metal rivot which we can see in the middle of the belt loops on the back of your holster ?

Also, could you post a photo of the front of this holster with its closure flap fully closed so we can see the shape of the flap ?

I have the Luger Finnish Holsters that you kindly illustrated for me in my collection. The holster lift-up strap is secured with a metal rivet to the rear of the holster (Please see attached photo of the holster flap closed).

Although, I am not totally convinced - but do you think we may be looking at a Lahiti holster? Again I cannot find a similar Lahiti holster example in any shape or form.

A quick question...does the magazine pouch have a half-circle cutout at the top for the Luger magazine button? There are Luger and Lahti holsters that are nearly identical except for this small detail.

The Holster does have the semi-circular cut out for the Luger magazine base (please see the attached illustration).

It is a safe bet that this is a Finnish Luger holster made for a Luger with the 120mm Tikkakoski barrel. For the longer barrel, a Lahti cleaning rod would be more "proper" with this holster than an original Luger rod. It is quite a nice holster and I would be happy with one like it for my Finn Luger.

I do transgress from time to time. I like contract Lugers and/or those that can be identified as issued in a particular country. So I do have a GNR, a Ã¢??29 Swiss, the Finnish and maybe one or two moreÃ¢?Â¦but I donÃ¢??t make a habit of it (well, perhaps I do).

Thank you for your reply ... sorry I've not been able to get back to you sooner, but I have had an extemely busy week!

I can confirm that this holster is 100% genuine and in all original condition.
I have not decided what to do with it, but I will certainly keep you in mind should I decide to sell it. I would probably be more interested in a trade against another P08 Holster should you have something in mind.
