Default 2000fps from a 4" barrel?

What do you think ?

A good 7grains of powder, a 6grain sabot + a 40grain 22 bullet would be easy to get past 1900fps from a 4" Parabellum.
Single shot only but i might try some day

Sabot is the french for wooden clog and sabotage was the 1700's workers way of having a break.
The first things to get automated with the advent of steam, was spinning machines and looms. Now suddenly 12 hours of work without a break, so workers threw a clog in the looms and got a little break as machinery got fixed.

A good friend of mine had a Grizzly .45 LAR and shot saboted 357's out of it. I helped him reload but I can't recall where he got the bag of 1,000 sabots for the 357/45 reloads. He liked magnums, and the 357/45 sabot had a distinctive bark. Fun looking too.

By golly, I have some 22/30 cal. plastic sabots! I fired some in my 30-06 and accuracy was 'zero'. Might try some in my 30 luger just for kicks.

If there is a name/brand/distributor on the bag, please post it.

At the time my friend Jim was shooting the saboted .45, I was shooting a 38-44 wildcat (pictures of the modified cylinder & S&W 357 mag on the forum somewhere). I still have it, with both 357 and 38-44 cylinders but I would like to try the 357/45 now.

In fact, if your 22/30 sabots would work in a 38 Super, that might be fun...

When I was younger, I got bit by the 22/30Luger bug. There were some postings here about some barrels and brass etc. Most postings mentioned twas hard to get a Luger that was a repeater out of the setup. Some may have had success cannot remember if posted or not here.

I went off to JLC Precision and had a Lee 30 Luger die modified to take neck bushings. Fooled with such a while in attempts to make the 22/30Luger brass right, but never got there; and shelved the project for a while.

I really think that a custom die made up with incremental shoulder bushings spec'd for the 22/30 Luger of the day would do the forming ok. These dies are a mainstay in the wildcatter's tool set. Die is easy, bushings are a pain to make.

I have some friends that dabbled in the sabot(224") in a 300 winchester mag rifle. Velocities were way up there, but the accuracy was not. So that was an exercise for the fun of it sorta speak, at least from talking with those guys.

I do not remember any sabot talk with the 22/30Luger postings of previous times here, guess was not thought of huh?

Even as a single shot, might be fun with loads safely worked up.

I trimmed, necked and reamed some 9x23 WIN cases, and while my experiment was more about how much a standard .30 load would be reduced for use in the thick 9x23 case, the flip side is what sort of ballistics could you get with a 90gr bullet and 55,000psi?

Have there ever been any Contender barrels in .30 Luger?
