That's a beautiful '06. I really like the cross in sunburst over the chamber.

Do you or anyone know the story with the shield imbedded in the left grip? What does it say? I think the bottom line reads, "Zurich"?

I'm guessing but I'd think that is the name and location of the retailer who sold the pistol.

Yes, I guess is the dealer too.

It reads "J.Locher Zurich"

Did a search but did not find anything.

That is a sweet gun, and the grip shield is very nicely done. I have a few Swiss and this one would fit right in. You can be justifiably proud of it.

Default Which ones are better, Swiss or German?

Very nice.
Is it true that Swiss lugers[manufactured by them] even the 'simplified' models are better quality guns than German ones?

I don't think the generalization is entirely unfair, but early DWM Commercials are extremely high quality fit and finish. The action of my M1900 Commercial shooter closes like the door on a Rolls-Royce. Simson and Kreighoff used the Erfurt tooling used to make WWI guns, also producing very fine weapons from equipment, jigs, etc. formerly used to pump out military guns ASAP. A better generalization might not be from country to country, but wartime to peace.

In order to make such exquisite firearms, a requirement might have been the ability to back up to a wall and pull out a brick.

I think J. Locher is the name of the owner - it does not look like a dealer address

I think Alexander (Stucki) is probably correct, I doubt that it is a dealer marking. There is a possibility that the gun, or at least the shield applied to the grip, is a shooting prize.

I was wondering the same thing, that if it might not be an award or some kind of presentation piece. Anyway it sure is a sharp Luger. Congratulations

Totally agree. Both Germany and Switzerland are known for superb craftsmanship.
War severely stressed many facets of the German manufacturing process however.

Nice score flydive ... beautiful gun
