Well, I,m under a strong impression that most of the full auto capable / designated military assault weapons of WW1 and ww2 were open bolt design. Typically very reliable... very simple.

Loose tolerances probably prevented contamination malfunctions.


Yet the military side arms have never been open bolt, I believe because of inaccuracy characteristic of open bolt - with the slam of the whole bolt mass at the time of the shot, ruining the aim?

But 22 caliber open bolt need only 0.4lb bolt for an open bolt safe operation and cycling ( and more weight in the close bolt for simple blow back as it s static mass controlling the explosion.)

Therefore the recoil and control not as bad as I would have been a 9 mm parabellum handgun or even rifle in open bolt...

I love open bolt design due to it,s simplicity ...hence looking for a beloved Gevarm, my only chance to have legit open bolt weapon.
