1917 Artillery trade
Hi all, I'm new. Just traded for a 1917 Artillery, all matching, save for the magazine. Original finish appears to be about 90%, about 50% on the strawed parts. The grips are very nice but a bit loose and they are numbered to the gun. The sights are the fine adjustment type. It shoots great and functions flawlessly after a detailed cleaning.
I will change the firing pin, grips and side plate assembly to be able to shoot now and then without risking the original parts. I would be interested in reasonably priced holster, stock and assesories. Matching is not that important but would be a bonus. As soon as I can lay hands on a good camera I'll send photos. The best part is it only cost me a series 80 Colt Combat Commander that I had about $600 in.

Welcome to the forum and you obviously don't have a conscience. The guy just made you trade, right? I once had a .303 Jungle Carbine, a Santa Fe version no less, just bought it for $65, had it apart in a bucket cleaning it, a guy walked up, asked what it was, had to have it. Offered $250, paid cash, wouldn't even let me put it back together. But then Colts aren't getting any cheaper either. Congratulations!

He knew what the gun was worth. Story is, one of my co-workers bought it from a widow who found it, and four other guns, in a bag after her husband died. She sold all five to my friend for $750. He couldn't get the gun to run right, (it was just dirty), and traded it to another co-worker for a sporterized '03 Springfield he'd picked up for $40. He also knew the Luger was worth more than the Colt but that's what he wanted. He said the Luger would just be a wall hanger if he kept it and he wanted something to shoot. In the end we all got what we wanted and are happy.

Well, every now and then you get a great deal and don't need to feel guilty about it!!
Great deal, welcome to the forum, POST some pictures for us if you can. I am guessing it is a DWM? (they made the majority of artillerys).

Yep, it's a DWM. No unit marks, nothing unusual, just nice.

Thanks, Ed. It is a nice shooter, very accurate. I'm going to send you a private e-mail re: a 1911A1 I have and the story with it.
