Steve,
While I was still working at NASA I was required to machine much Stainless Steel, and the best Lubricant to prevent seizing was The Lubricating Wax product Used for Lubricating Band files, Saber Files, Band saws and such.
It can now be found in hardware stores as a lubricating wax stick for sliding aluminum doors and windows.
Try rubbing the nose of the lead in this wax, It may possibly work.
I hope so.
