Unusual side panel stamp (test)
My 1937 DWM shooter has this stamping on the left side panel, any idea as to what it is? I can't find it in any of my references. This is also a test to try to upload the photo and I have no idea what will happen, hopefully you will be taken to my album where you can click on the jpeg to enlarge it.

This had come up earlier in the question of additional indents for the safety selector positions. I believe the consensus was that these are hardness test marks, done by the factory to test the density of the steel.

Could be, but on most Lugers that I have seen the hardness (Rockwell) tests were just a single dot . somewhere on the metal. At first I thought that the marks might be Farsi, but not knowing that language I don't know. Why do I keep getting Lugers with weird marks? Price I guess.

Herb,
I only have 2 proof marks book and could not find a match... I have two guesses : 1. A braile symbol... Okay, seriously... 2. Maybe an amourer's or gunsmith's mark...??? <img src="graemlins/icon501.gif" border="0" alt="[icon501]" /> |
