Evening All or Morning All,
just depends on where your at The question, How does one tell the difference between the DWM and Erfurt Mags since my 1st luger purchase which is posted 25 posts or so below, have spent many enjoyable hours here and thank everyone for the knowledge i have gained the only markings on the mag are on the wood floorplate, i see a number 2 on one flat, a Crown over the letter B on the other flat, and the number in the middle which is a mismatch, #7039, and my luger is #9679 on my 1914 DWM , Please Help ........... My apologies if i posted in the wrong forum but i thought i would post in this one as my pistol is posted below this ............... TIA, Regards, Paul |

The wood bottom of an Erfurt mag will have a an additional crown inspector proof mark that DWM do not, also the mag button on an Erfurt has a finer checkered pattern than a DWM..... the #2 could indicate police use and the C/B on the other sounds Erfurt....hope this helps

Paul,
My understanding of these magazines is similar to Howards, but slightly different in detail. Early Erfurt magazines have two inspector stamps on the wood base, one on each flat; late magazines only have one. DWM magazines, following their practice on the rest of their gun's parts, do not have inspector stamps. Imperial armorer's replacement magazines and mag bases are inspector stamped. The mag buttons on DWM pistols have a definite diamond appearance to their checkering; Erfurt checkering is definitely flat-topped. I agree with Howard that your magazine appears to be a Police magazine, converted from an Erfurt original (or possibly an armorer's replacement). Actually I went back to your original post (thats a heckofa nice Luger you've got there), the magazine you show sure looks like it has an Erfurt-style mag button. --Dwight |

Thanks Pete,
i had tried to find your dissertation on Mags from a post along time ago but the search didn't find it.....if you could point me in the right direction ....... Now the question is, How hard is it to find a correct era DWM magazine ???? Since the norm is a mismatched mag with (most) lugers.....does any trading go on to get the correct mag (or close) with the pistol in question ???? Or should i keep this one and just shop for another ??????? TIA, Regards, Paul |
