Per our phoncon this morning: You do have the short M1908 type frame (no provision for a grip safety spring), but difficult to tell if it was was altered since it appears to have a plug pinned into the bottom of the recoil spring area, which is not normal and may have been added if the grip safety inlet was removed from a M1906 frame. The serial number could be correct for either type frame. I doubt that DWM would have done it this way. Even though your barrel is matching to the frame, the 7.65x120mm barrel is VERY unusual on a true M1908. Your barrel appear very dark blue and high polished (it could just be the lighting) but may have been refinished. THis would be a very unique example, if FACTORY original. TH

The frame is definitely a P08 frame. The left rear frame grip is cut slightly higher than a non-grip safety Luger, to make room for the grip safety. When replacing the grip panel with a P08 grip, a gap is left between the frame and the profile of the grip.
You can see in the left illustration thte gap left behind the grip of a 1906 with grip safety removed, versus the P08 in this thread which is relieved lower and the grip fits properly. I have concerns about the c/N on the barrel, could you post a sharp, tight closeup of it? --Dwight |
