30 Luger ammo question
Hello - I am buying a Luger in .30 cal. that I will be firing occasionally. I would like to purchase factory new ammunition, and the two available brands seem to be Fiocchi and Winchester. It was recommended that I purchase Winchester if possible, because it is slightly hotter and less likely to jam. But it's relatively expensive versus Fiocchi, which is expensive enough for me. I'm curious what people's experience has been with the Fiocchi, and if it has proven to be reliable for occasional shooting. Thanks

Jay,
I have tried to shoot Fiocci in Alphabet Commercial .30 Lugers with mixed success. For a long time it was consistently underpowered, and would not reliably cycle the action. I opened up a new box one day, and all the rounds functioned properly. Dunno if it was a fluke, or if Fiocci changed the ammo. It will be interesting to know your experiences. --Dwight |

Hi:
Buy some of the Finnish 7.65 Parabellum listed on the Samco Inc. website. It is hot and loaded to the original military specs. Sieger PS: Not a bad price, either. |

I don't like the winchester in my .30.
It shoots way too hot and (maybe my imagination) seems to put un-needed stress on my pistol. After one box, I switched to the Lapua (Finnish) and it seems to shoot much better. |

I shoot both the Finnish FMJ & the Fiocchi soft point. My Luger prefers the Fiocchi, but the Finnish is about 1/2 the cost.
Either work well. And I love the accuracy from both brands! It is nice to shoot a Luger with commercial sights.

I just bought a box of Fiocchi 93 grain soft points (50 rounds) at a gun shop today. I can't get ammo shipped to Illinois via the internet so I had to buy it in person. I paid $24.95 for it, the Winchester 93 grain fmc's (50 rounds) were $38.95 (yikes!).
I just wanted to have at least one box so I could shoot my Luger if I wanted to. Online, I found www.midwayusa.com to have very inexpensive Fiocchi .30 Luger ammo. But they won't ship to me (I swear, Illinois is a Communist State). |
