Where can I find a review on this book?
German Small Arms Markings From Authentic Sources by Jochim Görtz & Don L. Bryans.
Read mauro's post on Luger letters, one question in my mind was "Who's Görtz?".... so I did a little search on name and found the above book. Is there a review on the book? I'm thinking of buying a copy or not..... Is it a great book on the subject? TIA |

Alvin,
Joachim Görtz his master piece was the book 'Die Pistole 08'. He also wrote many, many articles about the luger pistol for German gun magazines. 'German Small Arms Markings' is good in it's own right, but a bit outdated since Don Maus' 'History Writ in Steel'. |

Alvin, the work cited is very good for Imperial and Weimar era army and naval markings. As Vlim states, Don Maus' "History Writ in Steel" is the latest and best work on police markings.
If you can handle the German text I would suggest Gortz and Wacker's massive work "Handbuch Deutscher Waffenstempel" as the best book available on German military markings. It goes far beyond just identifying markings to include weapon distribution by unit type an much more. |

Dear Alvin,
Just to answer your first question: "Who's Görtz?" I have received this from Mr. Kornmayer. This description is also available in my web site where I have introduced Mr. Görtz as well. Originally it is an answer to a similar question raised years ago in Auto Mag. I guess Mr. Kornmayer summarizes clearly what Mr. Görtz represents for all the Luger enthusiasts. The researches made by these two gentlemen are a milestone for all the Luger enthusiast. I hope this helps. Mauro

I own a copy of "Woerterbuch der Waffentechnik, English-Deutsch".
As of today, I didn't noticed it is from Joachim Goertz.
