C&R bound books (?)
About a million years ago I was an FFL with special tax stamp for the full auto stuff and at that time used a "bound book" for recording all transactions. Now, many years later, as a new and very inactive C&R lic. holder I am asuming that a bound book needs to be maintained of C&R transactions.
Is that correct, and if so what is a good source for procurement of said bound books? Or does a shoe box of receipts suffice? I can just see the ATF types' facial reaction when you lay that in front of them during an audit... Thanks; dju |

Dave,
I think you can get an approved C&R record book from BATF, unless they've discontinued providing them. You can also buy bound ledger books at office supply stores, Staples, Office Depot, etc. Ron

I'm a new C&R and found the bound book, numbered pages at, surprisingly, 'Staples', the office supply place.

"About a million years ago" ??? David, I thought you looked familiar, to quote the late Elmer Keith "Hell, I was there!"

Actually I was a class 3 FFL up until Clinton's Veep Lloyd Benson made comments about how there are more gun dealers than McDonalds. Then the ATF raised the rent and harassed all the not-so-serious guys out of business. Oh well, life went on.

David,
I got mine thru RK Enterprises. Their website doesn't work, so I called them. Their bound book is real nice. Mike http://www.rkffl.com/

Don't' buy anything. Go to Surplusrifle.com and download a sample boundbook page as a pdf. Look under the C&R tab. Print a few copies, 3-hole punch and into a notebook. All done. The "book" does not have to be bound like a printed book.

David,
Be aware that some BATFE Agents don't consider a loose leaf notebook a " bound book ". I'm not going to tempt fate!! Mike

I have been using the one from Surplusrifle.com since I got my license in 2000. The pages are two hole punched and in a cover with two of those little brass tab thingys that you put thru the hole and fold back the tabs.
When I got inspected last year the ATF agent commented that he had never seen a book like that before, but it has all the information needed in it and looks just like the example in the BATF book. He said it was ok to use!

Can "bound" book be as simple as printing the pages from your computer copy of the contents, and stapling them together to "bind" them?
