If the grips are proofed, and presumed to be "original" then someone just sanded off the checkering after manufacture... they are no where near worth the money being asked...

they wouldn't be worth $25.00 to me... including shipping!

The seller deals in a lot of Luger items...and has not fared well for a reputation for authenticity among forum members. Caveat Emptor.

I like weird grips, have a set of metal ones (not very pretty), these in the picture are a fake Ivory but much nicer than normal, have a checked set and non (on 6 inch luger shown), then I like antler and even some bone grips. Had some smooth grips at one time, must have sold them?

If you want some smooth grips, buy a cheap set of reproductions and sand the checkering off. The ones you show are bad at a ridiculous price. Bill

In this day of CNC repros, lots of inexpensive grips on offer in the real world from about $20 to $100, the major differences I have seen with respect to quality of fit, finish and detailing, such as checkering ...mostly having no rhyme or reason to do with the pricing!

There is one notable reputable exception, however... spot on reliable in every way, including a satisfaction guarantee.

In my opinion (and that of others, no doubt) , the firm of Nil Grips, represents the Gold Standard for repro or "replacements."

Nil has some dealers representing him in the US (see Ebay Stores) or you can purchase them for the same price directly from Nil via the internet.

I personally own a pair of highly figured (albeit not garish) walnut grips from Nil Grips, uncheckered, that cost $100 plus a few pennies. Fit and finish are outstanding with cross-sectional profile very accurate by feel and direct measurement when compared to as new originals, which is another thing to bear in mind when considering a set of grips that have been already altered by sanding the checkering off, irrespective of price, originality or the obvious repair evident on this pair.

If I was after custom grips, I'd want something OTHER than Walnut to start with. Rosewood, Cherry, or maybe Bubinga. As it is, the grips that are on my pistol will stay there, a bit of stain helped them immeasurably.

Numrich Arms, (gun parts corporation) sold a series of reproduction waffenamt and US Ordnance stamps some years ago. They were roundly criticized and eventually discontinued them, but not before hundreds of "proofed" German stocks and Garand and M1 Carbine stocks magically appeared for sale in the marketplace. They have muddled the collector's market ever since.
This looks like one of these stamps.

Nowhere in the ad does it say "original", although he's obviously implying they're original by highlighting the fact they're Waffenamt.
