Test fired 30 rounds from "FG" C96

The gun is the "French Gendarme" variation which come with "factory error" grip panels acquired last year (BTW, I don't have any doubt it's a factory error because it's a middle digit in 6 digits, 3 and 5 does look alike on Mauser s/n stamping). One of its previous owners installed a non-factory firing pin in the gun. That's an unnumbered part on this variation, but a correct factory pin in good shape is hard to come and cost a lot. Finally, got one.

Planned to fire 10 rounds from it, but it worked so great, I finally fired 30 rounds. Followed the same procedure as usual: fire a single round first, checking:

1) Anything broken? no
2) Ejected case looks good, no crack, no deformation? very good
3) Primer of the ejected case had correct indentation? yes
4) Ejected case can be put back into chamber without any difficulty? yes

Then, test fired other 29 rounds. It worked perfectly. Luckily, nothing is broken in the process. Although it's not a super expensive instance, breaking any part would still be a bad headache. Now, it can go to the safe sleeping

You only checked one fired cartridge??? You must have large cajones...I check five, all five single shot. Then two's, then three's. Then, if it's a Luger, I look around for the front sight blade...

I also like to check around ejection area, see if any brass marks.

Did any ejected cases hit you in the head???

Not today. Very cold today, so I dressed a lot. But in summer, ejected cases flying into collar happened quite a few times

A beautiful specimen, Alvin. Thank you for sharing. I'm out of town at the moment but hope to share a recent acquisition (sadly, some minor pitting/rust which I removed but damage to the finish was done but a lot of it is still there given the conditions it was carried/not carried!).
