I have a 1917/1920 DWM which apparently started life as an LP.08--the notch on the receiver to accommodate the rear sight leaf of an artillery barrel is there. Although it has no sear safety or mag safety remnants, I'm thinking that since it came with a holster converted from military to police, it was re-barreled with the 4" 9mm for police use somewhere where it escaped the addition of the police safeties. The numbers on the barrel match the rest of it, but they are a slightly different font. The barrel was finished after the numbers and Nazi eagle proof were applied--they display no relief/halos, etc. and are blued over.
One of these days, I'll put up some pix... The right side of the barrel extension has six proof/acceptance marks! I definitely would not stake my life on my assessment, but I think the pistol has had quite a journey, particularly through the Wiemar and early Third Reich days.

You do know that the "1920" is a Government Property Stamp and not a year, right? I didn't at first. Doesn't mean the pistol was reworked in 1920 as some will tell you. Only means that it was in possession of the German government in 1920. Others can explain it better than I can. There are several posts about it on this board, I think.

Ed - Wouldn't it be more proper to say "Dated 1917 and also has the 1920 government property stamp"???
And then direct OP to the Treaty of Versailles in the FAQ??? I've been here ~7 years and this is still confusing...Especially when the chamber has only a "1921" stamp...
