Re: A Little Bit Off Topic But......
Borchardts are rare and desirable items for a Luger collector. After looking at the picture and doing a little color and contrast correction, I have to believe that it is refinished, and not to a quality that would be considered a restoration. Some of the sharp contours have been rounded. The rust blued surface, particularly when compared to what should be the fire, or nitre, blued parts does not have the appropriate appearance (too dull and dark). The screw head and the surrounding metal on the mainspring housing has been marred and blued over. Having said that, you just can't walk down to the corner store and pick up a Borchardt, so the seller may very well come close to the $8000 asking price

OK...Here it is
Just a quick snapshot, need to do a better one sometime with more controlled lighting. It isn't mint, but it is original..and it's mine! It is cased, with sholderstock, stock cheekpiece, holster and extra magazine. It is a Loewe.

Re: OK...Here it is
Outstanding firearm. Have you shot it? As Unspellable is researching, the origonal .30 luger had to be much more powerful than today's round. Is it closer to a 98 Mauser in feel than to a luger? Its really something to be proud of. Thanks for showing it.

Something To Behold
Ron,
Your Bork-Hart is a beautiful pistol. I have only handled one of them in my lifetime. I will never own one! Your picture of it is a very high quality on my monitor. Thanks for taking the time to put the picture on for us!!! |

Not to be shot
Although a well made weapon, it is 109 years old and deserves retirement. It has a complex, laminated serpentine mainspring that is too great a risk to break. I doubt that I could find an original, and I wouldn't want to lay out the bucks to have a new one fabricated (and it still wouldn't be original). The cartridge is is not the same as .30 Luger. It is dimensionally the same as the C96 Mauser, but not nearly as powerful. Original Borchardt rounds are themselves very collectable. Attempting to shoot the Mauser round in a Borchardt would be a disaster, almost certainly damaging if not destroying the gun.

Dude, you rule!! Seriously, this is one of the greatest personal-gun posts I've seen here. So simple, yet so elegant to own one.
