Israelian Nostalgia
Normally I'm not a fan of dewats, but this ticked a couple of boxes.
I carried one during my service days and also found a thick file from 1963 on the planned renovation of a batch of 100 Dutch military Uzis by the (then) state arsenal Artillerie Inrichtingen in Zaandam, the Netherlands. The file contains minutes on meetings, lists of serial numbers and defects, maintenance and repair manuals, a couple of blue prints and some other goodies. The nutered Uzi appears to be a well stored and little used IMI built example with Hebrew lettering. The Dutch Uzi was built under license from IMI by FN in Herstal, Belgium. Anyway, a nice paperweight memento. |

I have had a fondness for the Uzi for many years now. Have run a fair amount of ammo through one.

Just to note there was a progressive movement in Holland in the 1960s, like in most countries at the time. This progressiveness also found it's way in language and spelling, hence they spelled Uzi as Oezi.
Fortunately most of that progressive language crap disappeared again, with a few exceptions. The Dutch army ordered the Uzi in 1961, by 1963 already, many were in a sorry state and in need of refurbishment. The state arsenal AI was asked to come up with a game plan and a cost calculation, 100 damaged Uzi's were selected for a test refurbishment run. |
