Post help?

I have a 1915 DWM commercial, gun is about 88 to 90 % I had a local dealer offer 550. for the gun on 3-17-03. selling is not an option due to the guns history, dealer told me gun only had value as a shooter, why offer 550. I know this will be hard with out picture but any guesstimates on value would be appreciated.

Well Joe, if it has been messed with or is damaged, "normal" prices for "shooters" is $450 - $600, so either he is giving you a good price or it is worth more.

Your statement </font><blockquote><font size="1" face="Verdana,Tahoma,Arial,Helvetica,Geneva">quote:</font><hr /><font size="2" face="Verdana,Tahoma,Arial,Helvetica,Geneva">selling is not an option due to the guns history</font><hr /></blockquote><font size="2" face="Verdana,Tahoma,Arial,Helvetica,Geneva">is a bit "odd". With my background in law enforcement, I would say, hmmmmm.

You could probably recoup most or more of the price if you parted it out and destroyed the frame?

Hi Joe,

Welcome to the Lugerforum.$550 is not an unusual price for a Luger in the shooter class (guns that are not rare, with mismatched replacement parts, or in poor condition, or guns that have been refinished)... Those that fall in the collector class (fine condition, rare, fully original parts, with matching accessories) can go for as much as several times this amount.

Your gun's currrent market value is dependent on its rarity, market demand for the model you have, original condition, any accompanying accessories and often its proveable history...

There are Luger Identification sheets in the Technical information pages of this website. when you have collected all the information asked for on these sheets, post the information here, (photographs are optional but encouraged and helpful) and you will be pleasantly surprised to know that those members who can educate you about its origins, history and current value will be glad to help you.

Joe,

With the understanding that this is neither an evaluation nor a reflection of your Luger's actual "value", the dealer figured that he could ask at least $800 for this gun.

Ed, you jumped to a conclusion... maybe the gun has been in his family for generations...and letting it out of the family would be frowned on!

Of course, that is why they paid me the big bucks while in the army, to jump to attention, jump to details and jump to conclusions!
