Johnny,

Boy, do I know what you are talking about. I recently bought a 1917 arty that was all matching with an adjustible front sight and a decent bore. All the proof marks serial #'s and so forth where not touched. But the rails, side plate, trigger and straps had the heck buffed out of them. The price was good and I got a nice repro stock and holster w/ straps with it so I decided to take a chance. I took it deer hunting with me and killed a tree. It seems to have some other problems in ejecting and cocking that I will have to work out. When I solve those problems I will have a talk with my restorer to see what, if anything, can be done. I don't think that it can be restored to "like new" condition. But maybe a nice wall-hanger/shooter. But it gets me a little sick to see what a hacker did to it with a run away buffing wheel.

I aint that easy to put metal on as it looks like.

I welds loads of guns, mainly SIG P210, but I have welded many lugers and other guns to.

The problem is to get the weld invisiable after the saltbluing, in some cases will the weld get visiable after 2 years, in some cases never.

Welding is a great way of reparing and customizing guns , but it's impossible to give a warranty that it will get 100% invisiable.

When i Weld a luger to remove the lanyardring or the stocklug, or weld the cutout in the fork for the arty sight in 80-90% of the cases it gets invisiable.

But a few times it dont get that way, even though i did exactly the same thing.
