Default Cleaning Rod Help

I was rummaging through some old boxes of gun/Luger stuff. I ran across this cleaning rod that I got well over 30 years ago and I can't remember where, who from or how I got it. I would like to know if it is an original German cleaning rod and if so was it issued with any particular Lugers like commercials? What time period? or is it just a replica or US after market. This has no markings that I could find. The wood handle is slightly tapered toward the ends like a barrel. I have very little knowledge about these Luger accessories so looking for your help and expertise.

I'd say "home made" to stick in a holster to hold the place till a genuine rod was made.
The grooving on the shaft makes no sense, it would not hold a patch or tow for cleaning.

Thanks. I just wanted to run this past you guys and make sure it was not anything of consequence. I will go with it just being a simple cleaning rod likely made in America with no intrinsic value to speak of.

A friend has a similar rod in a no 4 Kommer pistol rig. Will photograph it next time I'm at his place.
