New member, first luger
Not really my first, but my first since I started collecting guns. My first luger was an artillery with the drum and stock my grandfather won in a poker game in when stationed in England during WW2 with the 8th air force, he gave it to me for my 21st bday but my roommate stole it 20 some years ago and it hasnt been seen since. Anyway, I've always wanted to add a Luger to my collection and came across this one at the local gun store I frequent for what I hope was a good price ($1550).

Welcome to the forum. Nice looking 1918 and I am so sorry to hear about what happened to your grandfather’s heirloom he passed to you.If you had the serial written down, you can still report it stolen.

It was reported to AACO police back in 97. I evicted the guy for non payment of rent, 5 days later he breaks in a steals a bunch of stuff, including my great grandmothers china set and sterling silver silverware which we found in the woods by my house a few days later. Even though they got his fingerprints from the door, my dresser and other places where he stole stuff from, they said it didn't matter since he lived there recently so they couldn't arrest him for it. The gun will turn up one day I hope. The guy also stole a 1911 my grandfather gave me he won in the same poker game.
This new one, which i have been told is a police luger, has a tendency to not chamber properly leaving a live round sticking almost straight up in the air wedged between the bolt (is that what its called?) and barrel. I ordered two mags for it figuring this is a mag problem. |

Your 1918 DWM Luger left the factory as an Artillery model. It was later converted for Police use by installing a short barrel and a sear safety.
The unit mark S.W. is also Police for Wiesbaden. The II probably indicates the district, area etc. and the number which I cannot make out for certain is the weapon number. |

Let me add that at one time your Luger had a magazine disconnect. It has been disabled and is no longer functional. Very few Police Lugers with functional magazine disconnects survive today as they were almost all disabled or removed entirely.

You already have the best magazine made, one of the "fxo" Schmeisser milled magazines.
The most likely cause of the issue you're experiencing is either the ammunition you're using, or the grip support you're giving the firearm during the firing cycle. Try using standard velocity 115gn or 124gn ammunition in this Luger. It's possible that it could also have an incorrect recoil spring installed. See our LugerForum FAQ document for details on this.

Mrerick, the mag doesn't have any stamps on it at all. The feed lips were bent out a little, I massaged them back in and now it shoots fine with his mag. The mecgars I bought however, are junk. Thankfully they were only 25 bucks each
