Mec Gar new & old comparison
I just got the nickel mags in today. They are really nice, price will be $25 ea. plus $5.00 shipping. I also took some pics showing from left to right. New production Mec Gar (gloss blued), new production Mec Gar (Nickled), old production Mec Gar (matte blue) and a stainless Mitchell wood bottom mag.
On initial inspection you will notice that the Mec Gars are made the same old vs. new. The main difference is the stamped spines are much sharper. Also the steel is .020 vs. .014 of the old. Followers (chromed steel) and bases are the same plastic with rings. The new mags have a "U" shaped cut on the bottom front. I do not know why they did this?? The only other change is cosmetic with the addition of "Made in Italy" and "Mec Gar" stamped on opposite sides of the body. The Mitchell mags seem to be of decent quality and I think may have been made by Triple K. Plastic followers but nice walnut bases. I tried it in one of my P.08's and it functioned flawlessly. http://www.cityscape.net/~dgeorge/mags.JPG |
